Europe’s first Hard Rock Hotel

Europe’s first Hard Rock Hotel will debut this month on Ibiza, the Spanish island known for its music and dance scene.

“Ibiza is the world’s electronic music capital and long regarded as being the stage for music legends, an almost obvious synergy for the Hard Rock brand,” said John Galloway, chief marketing officer of Hard Rock International. “The location is also absolutely breathtaking and boasts a reputation for being an adult playground for global jet-setters, island hoppers, free thinkers and a range of travelers.”

Galloway also noted that Ibiza has a shortage of hotels at the upper end of the spectrum that cater to a broad demographic.

“We saw an opportunity to bring the Hard Rock brand to the area and fill that gap while continuing to elevate Ibiza’s already vibrant music culture,” he said.

Hard Rock opened its first hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, in 1995. The company now has 19 hotels, but until Ibiza, none were in Europe, even though the brand launched in England with the first Hard Rock Cafe.

It may have taken the company two decades to open a hotel in Europe, but Ibiza is only the beginning. Galloway said the company is pursuing a number of opportunities for the hotel brand in the U.K., Germany and Spain.

The 493-room Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza is being opened and operated by the Ibiza-based Palladium Hotel Group, which converted two former Fiesta hotels, Club Don Toni and Hotel Don Toni, into the new hotel via a massive renovation of the properties, now connected by a remodeled lobby and dining, shopping and entertainment outlets.

The Hard Rock will offer live music and DJ performances on a centrally placed outdoor stage, designed to enable guests to watch performances from their rooms. Being a family-friendly resort, the concerts at the Hard Rock will end at midnight.

The hotel, which aims to become a five-star property, will be the island’s largest in terms of rooms, and also its tallest, at nine stories, enabling it to house Ibiza’s highest rooftop bar. The property will have 12 room categories, including swim-up rooms and suites with exclusive access to river-style pools from private terraces.

The hotel officially opens with a performance on June 13 by Nile Rodgers; its soft opening is May 18.
